William Charles Thomas Dobson

Born in Hamburg and a painter of religious orientated subjects. He learnt to draw in the British Museum but also enrolled in the RA Schools. He was heavily influenced by Sir Charles Eastlake who believed art should be edifying and uplifting. He helped him to become the headmaster of the Birmingham School of Design in 1843 but later went to Italy to study Renaissance Art. From 1842 he exhibited frequently at the RA and was noted for his uplifting themes and brilliant colours.
