John Anderson

Christopher Wood lists a J H Anderson (fl. 1892) a London landscape painter and a John MacVicar Anderson (1835 - 1915) who was an architect and painter of london topographical views.
This may even be another painter. Artnet
shows this picture and two others but has no details of the artist.

Landscape painter, brother of the sculptor Samuel Peploe Wood. He lived in London but mainly seems to have painted around the Kent area. Usually featured cows in his landscapes.

Irish topographical artist and watercolourist. After working in Belfast and Dublin on theatrical scenery came to London in 1848 as principal scene painter for Drury Lane and the Haymarket. About 1855 he began painting topographical scenes. He travelled widely painting towns and buildings.

A Claude Monet painting has sold for just under £41 million at Christie's in London - a world record price for a work by the artist at auction.

Born Kate Dickens, the daughter of Charles Dickens. She married Charles Allston Collins in 1860 who died in 1873, after which she married the Italian-born C. E. Perugini. Kate Perugini exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1877, specialising in genre and portrait painting, especially rather over-sentimental little girls. She herself features as the model for the girl in The Black Brunswicker by Millais.

Leighton House acquires Clytie - Lord Leighton's Last Painting



Staff at Leighton House Museum are celebrating after purchasing the last painting by one of Britain’s greatest 19th Century artists and returning it to the place it was created.

Thanks to an Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant of £337,500, Lord Frederic Leighton’s work Clytie will now stay, not only in Britain, but at Leighton House, where the Victorian painter had his studio.

James Hardy junior came from an artistic family. His father was the landscape painter James Hardy senior and his brother was Heywood Hardy. His cousin, Daniel Frederick Hardy, was a leading member of the Cranbrook colony of artists.

A painter of rustic landscapes and hunting scenes, Hardy specialised in sporting scenes depicting dogs and game, usually set in highland scenery. He painted both in oil and watercolour and exhibited regularly, at the Royal Academy between 1862 and 1886, the British Institution, the Suffolk Street Gallery and the New Watercolour Society of which he became a member in 1877.

The artist lived all his life in Bristol and died there on 4th April, 1889.
